Harry Potter E-Books Now Available

In case you haven’t heard it elsewhere yet, I feel obligated to point out that you can now get the Harry Potter books on your Kindle or other e-reader. They are only available from author J.K. Rowling’s “Pottermore” web site, but Amazon has coordinated with Rowling’s site so that you can buy the e-books once and read them on any of your Kindle devices/apps.

Unfortunately, this means there is no sampling from the Amazon site as is normally available on any Kindle book, so if you’ve somehow avoided reading Harry Potter as long as I have, you cannot get a free taste to find out if you want to take the plunge. On the plus side, the seven books are currently priced at $7.99, which seems to be a pretty reasonable, non-wallet-busting price for what is sure to be a high-demand commodity.

Yes, that’s right: I’ve never read any of the books and have only seen some of the movies. So sue me! I’ve read many, many coming-of-age stories including several that included teenage boys learning to become wizards — even going to wizard schools, such as in Ursula K. LeGuin’s wonderful A Wizard of Earthsea. However, now that I can read Potter on my Kindle and Samsung Galaxy Tab, who knows?
