Amazon has just announced the Kindle Owners’ Lending Library. This means that if you (a) own a Kindle device (not simply use a Kindle app on a non-Kindle device) and (b) have an active Amazon Prime
membership, you can “borrow” Kindle e-books (though not more than one per month) in addition to other Amazon Prime benefits (free/reduced shipping, free video streaming).

As of now, Amazon says there are 5000 titles available as part of this Kindle lending service. I have not yet had a chance to peruse them to see what sort of selection is available, but it sounds like another significant step in Amazon’s plan to make their Kindle Fire tablet a holiday season success, with all the free content that will be available for it (assuming you shell out the Prime membership fees, which so far seem pretty reasonable — especially if you take advantage of all the benefits now available to members.)
For those of my readers who take advantage of this new feature, how about leaving a comment here regarding your thoughts on the selection (or lack thereof) of titles?
I have “borrowed” Moneyball: The Art of Winning an Unfair Game
(the inspiration for this year’s movie) and have found it a very interesting read so far (about 40% into it at the moment).
